With a focus on health and wellness this fall, The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua will host a week of

fitness experiences featuring renowned health and wellness experts.

 

KAPALUA, MAUI, HI – September 15, 2015 – Next week, The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua will welcome fitness experts for a week of wellness September 25 – 27, 2015.  Visitors and the local community alike are invited to take part in this four-day experience to help balance mind, body and spirit through fitness workshops led by leading health and wellness practitioners. 

 

The luxury destination resort has partnered with Kelly LeVeque, Jenn Glysson, Tina Vindum, David Clawson, Phil Levi, Larry and Okasana Ostrovsky, Claudia Micco and Carl Powell to develop a diverse schedule geared towards all levels of fitness.  Kumu Ramsay R.M. Taum partners with Clifford Nae’ole, the resort’s cultural advisor, to infuse elements of Hawaiian healing with traditional blessings while naturalists from Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ambassadors of the Environment will be on hand for nature hikes, tours of the resort’s organic gardens and more.  Dr. Richard Murphy of Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Futures Society will also be on hand conducting a one-of-a-kind presentation and snorkel excursion.

5:45 a.m. – 6:45 a.m. – E ala E Ceremonies at Honokahua Beach – (D.T. Fleming Beach)

Join cultural practitioners for an invigorating ceremony guaranteed to rejuvenate your body and spirit.  Chants are offered by all to the rising sun.  Attendees should bring swim wear and towels.  Note: Photography is prohibited.

 

7:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. – STACC- Stronger than a Cup of Coffee – David Clawson and Phil Levi (Beach House Lawn)

This circuit based class is 60 minutes in length and has the efficiency of a cross training workout focused on functional motion with minimal equipment. A 5 minute warm up, 45 minute work period and a 10 minute cool down are included in this one of a kind fitness experience. STACC will challenge your balance, coordination and athleticism. Come start the day right with this workout that will ensure you leave feeling accomplished, refreshed and ready to take on whatever your day may bring!

 

8:00 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. – Pilates Mat Work – Carl Powell  (Makai Lawn)

Pilates Mat is a program that combines Pilates-based movement and breathing techniques with core strengthening and stabilization exercises. It is the ideal program to achieve and maintain fitness. This class is for all students experienced enough to exercise body control. The pace is dynamic and the emphasis is on fluidity of movement.

 

8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.  – E Ola Pono “Live Well” – Ambassadors of the Environment (Hotel Lobby)

Discover the many traditional medicinal uses found among the native trees, plants and herbs beginning in the medicinal gardens down to the Ambassadors Hale. Meets in the hotel lobby. Reservations required.

Sleep deprivation not only weakens your ability to handle stress, maintain a healthy immune system, control your emotions, but also cloud your thinking and lead to serious health challenges.  We will present powerful tips and tactics to get you to the most restful, rejuvenated sleep possible.

 

11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Eat Well, Be Well + Garden Tour with Chef – Kelly LeVeque (Ballroom 1)

When you learn how to choose your food wisely, you’ll find yourself with increased energy, improved mood, better weight control, and a strong immune system. Learn to fill up on fresh fruits, organic vegetables, wild proteins and healthy fats. Plus, Kelly will share easy tips for healthy food swaps, tips for eating well out and support tools for meal planning.

 

Saturday, September 26

 

7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. – Bro’ga Sesh- Yoga for the Bros –David Clawson and Phil Levi (Beach House Lawn)

Why are women generally more flexible than men? The answer is simple. Practice. Would more men practice mobility if there were a format geared toward something they identified with? We like to think so. With Bro’ga the movements and ranges that are explored in a more common yoga setting are addressed but with an added element that will traditionally challenge the strength and aesthetic side that we can all appreciate. We will breath, we will stretch, we will rep and we will get that beach body looking right with a Bro’ga Sesh.

 

7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. – Energy Flow Yoga with Claudia Micco-E-RYT 500 (Terrace Lawn)

This movement class will take you from the root chakra all the way up to the crown chakra, with different poses for complete balance of mind, body and spirit.

This beach bootcamp class is a full body fat burner that is safe and effective. Warmup with dynamic functional movements that will have you sweating before you even begin! The circuits will consist of body weight movements that are timed so you don't have to focus on the reps.  Quality over quantity is the key!

The focus of Dr. Murphy’s presentation is the environment, both internal (our bodies) and external (the natural world). Both are essential to our health and well-being.  This message will be conveyed through the concept of water alive – life is water alive and our planet is alive because of water.  This program will begin with an interactive presentation discovering how the sea life of Kapalua Bay demonstrates these concepts as we are introduced to the diversity of life underwater and the evolutionary connections among these species and even with us.  Following the presentation, Dr. Richard Murphy will guide guests on an interpretive snorkel to Kapalua Bay so you can experience Kapalua’s sea life in their natural habitat while getting in touch with our cosmic mother – the ocean. Wellness is a combination of a healthy mind, body, and spirit. In this lecture, we will examine finding perfect balance or FLOW. Come experience a journey to your inner and outer being. You will be guided through 7 magnificent life lessons , then we will discuss ways to integrate these lessons in our everyday lives.

Join us for this awe-inspiring event on our beautiful Terrace Lawn and share this sacred time with us.  Suitable for all levels, this class features a combination of slow flow, restorative postures, and meditation to help you connect more fully with nature's cycles and your own internal rhythms. The full moon is a time of swelling tides, heightened emotions, and completion of tasks and intentions. A calm mind and body are ideal for receiving its intense positive energy and preparing you for the next cycle of waning (decreasing), new moon (beginning), and waxing (increasing).
