Justin Work Give Balance Priority
by Justin Work
PBI Director of Tennis Kapalua

It is quite challenging to constantly be in a specific pre-determined position with your legs and body every time you hit a shot. No two shots are the same in a tennis match, and so our athletic personalities need to creatively find ways to counter everything that is thrown at us. Instead of thinking of turning sideways or worrying about how much shoulder rotation you are going to get on the ball, strive to be in good balance during the shot. Whether you are turned sideways (closed stance) or are facing the net (open stance) while hitting the ball, it is important to remember that for both strokes it is vital to stay balanced (both feet on the ground, knees bent, lowered center of gravity etc.) so that you can create an excellent physical and mental state for sound stroke production.
